What are the minimum computer requirements for
using 4myaccount!?
- Pentium 133 MHz or faster processor with 32 MB RAM
- Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, 2000, XP operating system
- Color VGA monitor
- At least 800x600 screen resolution (1024x768 recommended)
- 28.8K bps modem (56K bps modem recommended)
- Browser software: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, SP2, with 128-bit
encryption
- A connection to an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Can I use a Macintosh?
Unfortunately, 4myaccount! does not currently support non-Windows based platforms.
How do I know if my computer hardware meets the minimum requirements?
Operating system, processor, and RAM memory:
At your computer desktop, find the My Computer icon and right-click.
Select Properties from the drop-down menu. Within the tab entitled General, you
should see the type of processor (i.e., Pentium II, III, or IV), amount of RAM
memory (generally 64.0, 128, 256 MB), and Operating system (Windows 98, NT,
2000, XP).
Modem:
If you purchased your computer within the last year, you can assume that you
have at least a 28.8 kbps modem (and probably 56k). Upon connection to your
Internet Service Provider (ISP), you should receive a message telling you at
what speed your modem is connecting to the Internet.
What should I do if my password and user ID don't work?
If you experience trouble using your user ID and password with the 4myaccount! site, please click on
the link at the top of the site entitled Login Problems/Forgot Your PIN#. This will send us a message
to have your PIN reset.
Can I change my user ID and password?
At present, you are unable to change your user ID. In the future, we hope to allow you to personalize
the user ID. However, you can create your own password. To do so, please enter your
user ID and password
and click Change Password at the login window.
Why do I not see all of my NFS accounts when I enter the 4myaccount! site?
To see all your accounts in one place, you must request that all of them be
linked to one of your 4myaccount! user IDs. Please contact your representative
to have additional National Financial accounts linked to a specific user ID.
Where can I find instructions for using
the 4myaccount! site?
From inside the 4myaccount! site, click the HELP button at top left (next to the
Logout button). This will open a 4myaccount! tutorial that includes information about the buttons,
as well as an overview describing account information and market data screens.
What is 128-bit encryption, and why is it important?
128-bit encryption refers to the level of security provided for data in transit
to and from a Web site. 4myaccount!’s 128-bit encryption ensures that account
information viewed through your browser is securely transmitted. Furthermore, if
you submit proprietary information, such as a social security number, a third
party cannot retrieve it.
128- and 40-bit refer to the size of the key used to encrypt the data; the
larger the key, the stronger the level of security. Roughly speaking, 128-bit
encryption is 309,485,009,821,345,068,724,781,056 times stronger than standard
40-bit encryption. We strongly recommend that you use a browser that supports
128-bit encryption when accessing your account information via 4myaccount!.
How do I know if my browser supports 128-bit
encryption?
In Internet Explorer, go to the Help Menu and choose About Internet Explorer.
You will see something that looks like the box below. Your cipher strength
indicates your encryption level (128-bit in this example). If you do not have
128-bit you can click the Update Information link to update your browser.
What is a "cookie," and can I get my browser
to stop asking me whether I wish to accept them?
A cookie is a piece of information that is collected by a Web site and stored on
their server for later use. Cookies help identify first-time users of a
particular Web site by storing a User ID and Password within the memory of your
system, eliminating the need to log in each time you arrive at a site. To stop
the message from appearing every time you encounter a cookie, you can do either
of the following:
If using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5:
1. Go to Tools
2. Select Internet Options
3. Click on the Security Tab at the top
4. Select Internet Zone
5. Select Custom to view specific Internet security options
6. Scroll down to Cookies
7. Select Accept Cookies
If using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0:
1. Go to Tools
2. Select Internet Options
3. Click on the Privacy Tab at the top
4. Slide the vertical slide bar to the bottom so "Accept All Cookies" is
selected
For more information on cookies and how they work visit Microsoft's site:

How do I identify specific accounts within the
4myaccount! site?
To easily identify your accounts, you can add a description to each linked account within
4myaccount!. To do so, log in to the 4myaccount! site and click the Name button. Your
account numbers will be listed, and you can add a description (e.g. "My IRA," "Our Joint Account,"
etc.) to make it easier to identify specific accounts from the drop-down list.
How do I view my Balances, Positions and History once I've logged in to the system?
Once logged in to the 4myaccount! site, select Accounts from the tabs
at the top of the page. A subset of tabs will appear where you can choose from
My Portfolio, Account Detail, Positions, History, Balances, Order Status, or
Statements.
Does 4myaccount! work with AOL?
No. We do not currently support AOL.
How up to date is my 4myaccount! account
information?
Account Balances and History each reflects the previous evening's close. However, the Positions screen allows
you to view real-time position balances and values during trading hours by
clicking on the area that says "Click Here for Current Market Value."
Are quotes provided by 4myaccount!
in real time?
No. Quotes and news are provided on a 20-minute delay.
How do I log out?
The Logout link is located in the upper right-hand corner.
You
can also simply shut down your browser.
Why can’t I see the secure site lock
on the
4myaccount! site?
4myaccount! is a secure Web site.
However, users who access 4myaccount! through Microsoft Internet Explorer will not see the secure site icon
that
normally appears at the bottom right-hand corner of the browser. This is because
the 4myaccount! Web site is broken into two different frames:
- Top frame – Logos and forms at the top of the page that are not secure.
- Bottom frame – All financial content under the logo that is secure.
Due to the site’s architecture, the secure lock will not appear. To verify that
the site is secure, log in to 4myaccount!;
choose File and then Properties from the top menu bar. The Properties window
will appear. In the Connection line, users will notice the encryption level. In
this instance, the Connection line shows that the 4myaccount! Web site is 128-bit
encrypted.

DATA |
What is the Annuities button for,
and why isn't there any information under it?
The Annuities section allows a representative to link a
client’s outside-held variable annuity (VA) account to his or her brokerage
account for the purpose of reporting fund balances within the annuity on both
the client statement (monthly paper copy) and through ACCESS and 4myaccount!.
Currently, eleven variable annuity companies participate in the posting program
(i.e. feed National Financial information), which encompasses about 70 percent
of Commonwealth’s VA business.
No information will be shown until that client’s brokerage account has been
linked to a variable annuity account.
For a representative to link a client’s VA account to a brokerage account, the
registration must match between the two accounts (i.e., same name and address).
The representative must fill out an online form (which can be found on COMMunity
Link under Planning/Annuities) to provide us with the client name and the two
account numbers to be linked.
How do I get an Option quote?
In the Symbol field, enter a hyphen (-) before the five-letter option symbol.
How do I get quotes on preferred
stock?
In the Symbol field, enter the symbol of the preferred stock and add a
"/pa" at the end (with no spaces
in between). For example: IBM/pa.
What do I do when I get the message
"Data Not Found" for Market Data?
Most likely you did not enter a ticker symbol before hitting the Quote button. To access
any Market Data feature, you must first enter a symbol in the Symbol field.
Then you may select a feature and the information will be provided on that
symbol.
What do I do if I get the message "Data Unavailable" when trying to obtain quotes?
If you receive a Data Unavailable message when trying to obtain quotes, please try the following:
- Try to obtain a single quote by typing the symbol into the Quick Quote field and clicking Go.
- If able to get single quotes but not a whole quote list, try limiting the number of symbols per quote list to less than 10.
If problems in obtaining quotes still persist, click the Contact Support
button to report your error to us.
